Every winter, runners from across Japan and around the world gather in Osaka for one of the country’s most vibrant city marathons. The Osaka Marathon is renowned for its lively atmosphere, flat and fast course, and scenic route through the heart of the city. Starting in front of the Osaka Prefectural Offices and finishing inside Osaka Castle Park, the race takes participants past well-known landmarks such as the Dotonbori area and Kyocera Dome, all while being cheered on by enthusiastic crowds lining the streets. A shorter 7.2 km “Challenge Run,” with divisions for wheelchair athletes, is also held the same day, making the event inclusive and welcoming to runners of all levels.
Beyond the race experience, the Osaka Marathon is recognized by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, World Athletics, and AIMS, ensuring it meets international standards while offering a uniquely local character. Entry is typically determined by lottery several months in advance, with spots available for both domestic and international runners.
